East Africa’s Vibrant Wilderness

Nairobi was recently treated to a most spectacular display of photo art at the just concluded first annual wildlife photographer of the year competition. Going by the theme “East Africa’s Vibrant Wilderness”, the emphasis of this exhibition was on the interdependence of wildlife and habitat, and entries span the whole spectrum of flora and fauna.

From insects and other nondescript fauna, to reptiles, amphibians to flora, animal and bird behaviour, natural phenomena. All photographs were taken in East Africa.

This exhibition was run as a competition under the banner of Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition and winning photographs and entries were put on display in a special exhibition in The Sarit Centre’s Exposition Centre from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th May. The entries were judged by coterie of prominent personalities who included judges like;

David Beatty is an avid traveler whose career has spanned 3 decades and 3 continents, his pictures range from documentary, reportage and travel to portrait, fashion, and advertising. His work has appeard in numerous journals and magazines.

Gordon Boy an author and a journalist, he has been the Editor of SWARA – a quarterly magazine of East African wild Life Society. His articles have appeared in many publications both in East Africa and around the world.

Samouma has been with Kenya Union of Journalist, Panelist of Judges. Besides that, he joined Kodak as head trainer for Sub Sahara Region.

Masud Quraishy is a professional Wild Life Photographer for more than 50 years with a wide resume in organizing photo exhibitions all around the globe.

Duncan Willets has worked extensively in the media world, first with Mohammed Amin at Camerapix, also at Visnews TV, A.P. Reuters and BBC. Together with Brian Telley he has produced high quality pictorial travel books.

T.S. Mhajan graduated as a professional photographer from Guilford School of Arts UK. He is the proprietor of Elite Studios a photographic supplier in Kenya, and Chairman of Mada Hotels.
