Cartoon Exhibition
By Tonie Mwangi
Drawing the line, KATUNI recently came together under the aegis of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation to present an exhibition - “WHAT NARC MEANS TO YOU” - a collection of cartoonists works. This exhibition hosted by Goethe-Institut was officially opened on 3rd May and runs through to 20th May 2005 at their Auditorium.
The idea behind the cartoon exhibition was to express the impressions of the government’s performance through the creative minds of amateur and professional cartoonists, as NARC marks the halfway point of its five year tenure this year. The concept is the brainchild of Patrick Gathara the mercurial and charismatic leader of KATUNI, Association of East African Cartoonists.
Browsing through the walls of the auditorium, as one peeks at these hilarious yet sombre portrayals of Kenya’s political scene, one cant help noticing the contrasting emotions of both hope and despair sprinkled with the occasional humour woven in all the cartoons caricatures. The messages resonate powerfully in terms of the issues of the day leaving one with a feeling of de javu.
