Where Art and Industry Will Meet
By Caroline Kaminju/africancolours.com
Glass work is a main feature at this year’s Johannesburg Art Fair themed “Art and Industry,”
A commissioned glass installation Fluid, produced by glass artist Martli Jansen van Rensburg, is one of the 11 Special Projects expected to be exhibited.
The movement of water and the nature of glass inspire the installation.
Twenty-three art galleries have been invited to exhibit, and among them is Gallery Watatu from Kenya exhibiting for the first time.

Top art students from various tertiary institutions will be given an opportunity to exhibit their work and receive advice on how to develop their art career.
Art lovers can look forward to the Art Talks program whereby various artists and international speakers are expected to share their expertise.
The fair, scheduled to start on 26 to 28 March 2010 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, will serve as a platform for artists’ works to be seen by potential investors.
Chief Executive Officer of the First National Bank (FNB) Investment Product House, Lezanne Human said that, “the current economic climate calls for investors to consider alternative investment avenues of which art is a class of growing interest.”

FNB renewed its commitment to sponsor the Fair for the next three years while the Department of Arts and Culture said it “supports the producers and suppliers of art because art is a critical component of the society.”
Tickets will be available at the door at R100 for a day’s pass and R200 for a three-day pass.
