Domboramwari Art Village Residency Program October-December 2007 saw the synergy of 17 visual artists coming from seven countries.

It was a conducive platform for the sharing of skills and knowledge. During the course of the event the team travelled to Mvurwi, where the Great Dyke Mine is situated.

At this source, a diverse range of stone is excavated. Artists got the opportunity to witness how the stone they use for sculpturing is drawn from the earth.

During this trip each artist chose a stone he/she would work on during the program, hence the visiting artists got an opportunity to feel the local stone that is exported into the international market. Artists experimented in different medias including paintings, sculptures, ceramics and batiks.

Visits where made to community schools, Harare Polytechnic and Galleries. Artists interacted and engaged in discussions, each artist had to show his or her work on slide show or photographs, and others got a chance to ask questions and discuss.

Working with the theme “Judgment”, the artists produced an extraordinary body of works that captured the eye of observers.

The event was illuminated on Saturday the 15th of December with a well attended opening at the premises of the Domboramwari Art Village.

The Exhibition was officially opened by Mr Titus Chipangura, the Executive Director of the Arts Council of Zimbabwe; Mr Masango, the Chief Immigration Officer of Zimbabwe graced the event together with Mr Nicolas Moyo.

Also present were the Assistant Director of Arts Promotion and Development, Mr William Ndinde, the Provisional Art Manager of the Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Mr Lazzie Kachikwa, Auditor and Complaints Manager and Terrence Mapurisana, a prominent locally based journalist.

Mr Chipangura emphasized the need for Zimbabwean art to be recognized internationally and ascertained that Domboramwari Art Village was one way to achieve it.

He conclusively thanked the Prince Claus Foundation and Ford Foundation for their support and making the program possible.
