Picasso and Africa Writing Competition
By Cara Snyman (caras@davidkrut.com)
Winners Announced
The winners of a national writing competition run by Standard Bank, in collaboration with David Krut Publishing and the Mail and Guardian, have been selected.
Writers entering the competition were invited to consider some of the issues raised by the Picasso and Africa exhibition that ran earlier this year at the Standard Bank Gallery in Johannesburg (10th Feb to 25th Mar) and at Iziko South African National Gallery (13th Apr to 21st May) in Cape Town.
Writers were encouraged to discuss the extent and nature of the relationship between African art and Picasso, and the possible implications of a phrase like “Picasso and Africa ”.

The competition jury, chaired by Bronwyn Law-Viljoen, Managing Editor of David Krut Publishing, consisted of Rory Bester, Jillian Carman, Ntone Edjabe, Barbara Freemantle, John Matshikiza, and Véronique Tadjo.
The winners of the competition are:
First Place: Allan Thompson
Second Place: Michael Lambert
Third Place: Amy Miller
