One Man's Trash, Another Man's Treasure

As part of the events for the French Week 2010 Art is Everywhere International Exhibition took place from Monday 22nd March 2010 at Alliance Francaise Enugu.

The exhibition which was declared opened by the Mr Uche Nwuche, Director of Culture, Alliance Francaise, Enugu featured artworks from two previous workshops.

Artists whose works featured at the exhibition include Enyo Dackey from Togo, Akwele Suma Glory from Ghana, Ayo Adewunmi, who is the project coordinator, Lebechi Okochaeze, Ekene Ireagwu, Ayo Aina, Okechukwu Eze, Esther Gomina and Promise Friday Airunmwude.

Works exhibited were made from recycled materials such as metal, wood, recycled paper, sawdust, seeds and several other objects collected from the waste bin.

The exhibition was the 9th in the series since the inception of the project in 2005.

The aim of the project, is to educate the public on the several possibilities of recycling waste to art and re-focus the attention of the younger artists to opportunities in their immediate environment.

Ex President of Pan African Circle of Artists (PACA) and a lecturer at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, Mr Toochukwu Amano commended the determination of the Art is Everywhere team at achieving its set goals, noting that artists  around have undoubtedly been influenced  by the activities of Art is Everywhere project.

So far over 170 artists have participated in the Art is Everywhere recycling workshops which have enjoyed sponsorship from Alliance Francaise and Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development and Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.

The next International workshop which is the 9th since 2005 is scheduled to hold during Life in My City Art Festival in June 2010. Detailed information can be obtained from www.art-is-everywhere.com.
