The late artist Geoffrey Mukasa, one of the fine artists whose work is being showcased, was influenced by Indian and European aesthetic values. He focused mainly on human relationships with the environment, interactions between humans, flora and fauna with a great affinity in particular to the cubist movement.
Ugandan Ronex Ahimbisibwe’s artistic style is a rich, colorful blending of acrylics, basco paints, oils, prints and inks on diverse supports as sisal, canvas, bark cloth, paper, cardboard and woods - mostly rejects. He has exhibited his work in Uganda, Tanzania, Germany, the Netherlands and Kenya including being profiled in magazines such as The Australian Art Review. His work “Bringing Home” is featured at the Exhibition.

For Kenyan artist Bertiers, fools and dreamers, heroes and charlatans, domestic bliss and marital discord, personal foibles and national tragedies- all these have found expression in his spirited and penetrating work. And his work ‘Cat Painting’ reflects some of these expressions if not many. That of course will be left to you to decipher.
Though he passed in June 2005 George Lilanga Di Nyama presented through his work the culture and mythology of his people through canvases swarming with figures, vibrant colors and a rhythmic movement representing Mapico dance, typical of his people.

On the other hand Lilian Nabulime, the Ugandan sculptor and also a lecturer creates bold, beautiful and challenging works that explore the politics of gender, race and disease in modern Africa.
African Summer 2010 runs until the 30th of August 2010 and will thus provide enthusiasts with the ample time to get to see the works on display.
The Gallerie Lumieres D’afrique is open from Thursday to Sunday from 14h00 to 20h00.
