Great Angolan Plastic Artist Marcos Ntangu is Dead
By Simao Souindoula

The Angolan plastic artist Marcos Ntangu died on Sunday 22nd in the afternoon due to an illness, Angop learnt from the secretary general of the National Union of Plastic Artists (UNAP), Antonio Bastos.

The death of the artist who was born in 1966 in the province of Uige leaves, according to the secretary general, leaves a void in the fine arts in the country. Marcos Ntangu was brilliant designer with various techniques especially in painting on velvet.

Ntangu's technique level in the plastic arts was very developed. He was an artist that mastered the art of drawing and painting. Today if we speak about realism, Ntangu is an artist whose work can be reffered to as such.

Beside the  quality of the work he produced asan artist and the prizes his work was bought for, Ntangu was a recognised artist in Angola and outside his country. He participated in numerous exhibitions in the country and abroad, placing himself as one of the most prominent artists in Angola.

Marcos Ntangu studied in the High Institute of Mechanic and Industry in Luanda. He specialised in painting during two years in the Academy of Fine Arts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), during which he attended the atelier of the painter Ngombo Ndofunso.

National Union of Plastic Artists (UNAP) member since 1994 he learned the technique of painting with oil on velvet with the late painter Pululu.

Ntangu held the first prize of National Association of Republic of Congo in the VII Biennial of CICIBA-International Centre for Bantu Civilization and the Grand Prize of Painting Ensa-Arte 2006 of Luanda.

The author had several individual exhibitions in the country and abroad and shared collective events.
