Launch of Arterial Network Kenya Chapter
By a Correspondent

One of the aims of the Arterial Network this year is to launch 16 country chapters across the African continent. Already, eight of these are launched -Mali, Namibia, South Africa, Togo, Swaziland, Benin, Zimbabwe and Botswana – and eight more, including Kenya, are set to launch by the end of 2010.

Interim Committee Volunteer-Members Meeting for Logistical Preparations of the Kenyan Chapter

A country’s readiness to launch is determined in part by the number of signed up membership, and to date Kenya has over 70 members signed up.

A formalized country chapter allows the membership to elect its own representatives and to give them mandate to act on its behalf. This is a significant milestone in the evolution of the continental Arterial Network.

You are therefore warmly invited to attend the Kenya Chapter launch which will take place on 2 November 5.30 pm at the Kenya Cultural Centre/Kenya National Theatre.

To assist in the logistical preparations for the launch of the Chapter –(venue, invitations, media, materials, etc) - an interim committee of volunteer-members comprising Joy A. Mboya (the current country representative), Njeri Munga, Nancy Onyango and Boaz Adhengo has been meeting. The committee is following a launch template provided by the head Arterial Secretariat.

The launch event is open to those already signed-up with Arterial, as well as those with an interest to learn more about the network and its activities. During the launch, signed-up members will be able to elect their Arterial country representative/chairperson and country steering committee members, from among the membership only.

Arterial has also recently established its first regional Secretariat, the Arterial East Africa Secretariat. It has its office at the GoDown Arts Centre, Nairobi. The new Regional Secretary is Dr. Garnette Oluoch-Olunya who will assist with the launch/election process as the Chief Teller.

If you have not yet signed up and wish to do so in order to be able to participate in the upcoming first Kenya Chapter election, please contact Njeri Munga (munganj@gmail.com) or Boaz Adhengo (adhengo@hotmail.com) for more information on registration before the close date, 22 October 2010.

Your name will then appear on the list of those eligible to vote or be voted for. This list will be circulated in the week of 25 October, ahead of the launch on 2 November 2010. For those who will not be able to physically attend but who still wish to vote, absentee ballots can be used and these will be emailed to the membership during the week of 25 October 2010.

Please confirm your attendance by contacting the volunteer launch committee members: Njeri Munga (munganj@gmail.com) or Boaz Adhengo (adhengo@hotmail.com)

We look forward to seeing you at the launch.
