Depuis 1994, les Rencontres de Bamako, co-organisées est co-produites par le Ministère de la Culture du Mali et l’Institut français*, se produisent tous les 2 ans à Bamako. Manifestation culturelle d’envergure internationale axée sur les enjeux de la photographie contemporaine et de la vidéo, elle propose expositions, rencontres professionnelles, ateliers, projections publiques et catalogue, qui servent de catalyseur aux artistes du continent, aux professionnels de l’image et au grand public.

Cette manifestation vise à promouvoir les diverses tendances de la photographie contemporaine et de la vidéo en Afrique en concrétisant des échanges internationaux entre les artistes, le public, les conservateurs, les commissaires, les médias et les collectionneurs.

Les Rencontres de Bamako travaillent avec une grande diversité de partenaires locaux et internationaux (musées, galeries, fondations, centres d’art, lieux publics, centres culturels français, écoles d’art, centres de formation en photographie, associations culturelles) pour présenter une série d’expositions réparties à travers la ville transformant ainsi Bamako en une vaste exposition de groupe à la fois cohérente et stimulante autour d’un concept phare.

La 9ème édition des Rencontres de Bamako est placée sous la direction artistique de Michket Krifa et Laura Sérani. Samuel Sidibé en est le Délégué général. En 2011, le thème de la Biennale est : « Pour un Monde durable ».

Les organisateurs de la Biennale, face au constat que peu de commissaires d’expositions invités dans les grands rendez-vous internationaux vivent et travaillent sur le continent africain, souhaitent encourager l’accès des critiques d’art et commissaires d’exposition africain à ce métier.

La mission principale des Rencontres de Bamako étant de permettre la visibilité des artistes photographes et vidéastes africains sur leur continent et à l’international, il est essentiel pour la prochaine biennale qu’elle permette également l’émergence et la reconnaissance de jeunes commissaires de l’art contemporain issus du continent.

Le Ministère de la Culture du Mali et l’Institut français recherchent, pour la prochaine édition qui se tiendra à Bamako en novembre 2010 un COMMISSAIRE D’EXPOSITION qui devra proposer et mettre en œuvre un projet d’exposition, qui s’insèrera dans la programmation des prochaines Rencontres de Bamako dont le titre est « Pour un monde durable ».

Le commissaire d’exposition est invité à proposer un projet d’exposition original, propre à singulariser la Biennale de Bamako sur la scène internationale tout en l’inscrivant fortement localement en la rendant accessible et fréquentable par un large public. Cette dimension populaire est un enjeu important de la Biennale de Bamako.

Profil du candidat :
- être originaire et résidant dans un pays du continent africain
- justifier d’une bonne connaissance des artistes et des problématiques de l’art actuel, particulièrement sur le continent africain.
- proposer une exposition mettant en valeur des œuvres photographiques et/ou vidéos et/ou une transdisciplinarité de ces médias avec d’autres disciplines artistiques
- avoir des expériences en qualité de commissaire d’exposition

Zone d’intervention :
Le commissaire d’exposition a la possibilité de proposer le projet de son choix, sans restriction géographique pour la sélection des artistes.

Durée de la mission :
La mission du commissaire d’exposition couvre une durée maximum de quinze mois allant de la signature de son contrat au bilan et à l’évaluation des Rencontres.

Missions
Le candidat a pour mission de soumettre un projet artistique comportant :
- le développement du concept et de la thématique d’une exposition qui s’inscrira dans le cadre de la 9ème édition des Rencontres de Bamako
- une proposition d’organisation de l’espace de l’exposition et/ou d’investissement de l’espace urbain
- le budget prévisionnel de son projet et les perspectives de financements imaginés en compléments de ceux des partenaires producteurs de la Biennale
- un aperçu d’un premier choix artistique (liste provisoire d’artistes accompagnée de quelques visuels des œuvres)

- calendrier d’exécution

Call For Applications: 9th Edition of African Biennial of Photography Bamako

Since 1994, the Rencontres de Bamako, co-organized, co-produced by the Ministry of Culture of Mali and the French Institute *, occurs every 2 years in Bamako. A cultural event focusing on international issues of contemporary photography and video, it offers exhibitions, professional meetings, workshops, public screenings and catalogs, which serve as a catalyst for artists on the continent, professional image and general public. Candidate Profile:
- Born and lives in a country in Africa
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of artists and art issues today, particularly on the African continent.

Area of intervention:
