New works by Akindiya Akirash @ Red Mill Gallery, Vermont
By a Correspondent

“Words they say is like an egg whichwhen if it falls out of an individual's mouth, it breaks, splits, scatter and can’t be replaced, arrange, put together as complete again.”

Nigerian artist, Akindiya Akirash has been on an artist in residency program fellowship in Vermont Studio Center from March 27th and completes the program 22nd April 2011.

He is presenting the outcome of his works at Red Mill Gallery on 16th April at Vermont studio center premises at 2pm with a wonderful body, drumming performance and humour before the opening at 3pm.

As part of the code for opening we say everybody should put on black/ white outfit to blend with the used of materials explode during the process of the project.

About the artist work:

The title of the exhibition is “ITAN MI : MY STORY “ most my works start with experimenting on different materials and I have explored lots of materials as an environment artist and at this program am just hungry for anything that is paper and I think I have done just to show the various creative, innovative, challenging works that will make someone ask:  WHAT IS HE THINKING / WHAT IS GOING ON IN HIS MIND.

Body Patterns by Akindiya Akirash

Body Patterns

My second project at this residency was to focus on a project that I have been doing for 3 years, which is looking at signs, symbols, logo, body marks, proverbs, prose, poems and body languages and used by past elders and which today in the 21st century is fading away.

I combined most of this together on people's faces and bodies as an instruments to make statements through my brushes rather than communicate by mouth.

Am inviting you all to come out in numbers from your winter houses to join us in this educative trip, let us have fun, enjoy together find meaning to some lost words, disagree to agree on issues.
