Press Release | Kuona Trust

Kuona Trust takes the pleasure to invite you to ‘Life, Death, Hope & Freedom’, a photographic exhibition by Jay Patel, opening Tuesday 26 July at 6pm, and will run until 14 August 2011 (showing from 10am – 5pm).

Jay Patel-Life,Death,Hope and Freedom.

Stake Out by Jay Patel

“Life, Death, Hope & Freedom” is an exhibition by Jay Patel, a photographer exploring the darker side of humanity; A side he says, “We're exposed to daily through constant violence in the media and in our everyday lives - the pain we inflict on each other, the sins we visit on our children and, ultimately, the suffering we impose on ourselves”

Jay, a career banker, has put together an imaginative collection of staged photographs using wooden dolls to enact everyday violent situations in an attempt to interrogate the reasons we inflict pain on each other.

His work presents a snapshot ‘moment in time’, though lacking finer detail, the images give clues to the audience. This lack of detail allows the viewer's imagination to take over and fill in each story.

It's always fascinating to hear the myriad of different interpretations that people see when looking at the same image. Interspersed amongst these images are a contrasting series providing a glimpse into the human race’s better nature.

The exhibition takes place at Kuona Trust's Centre for Visual Arts, off Dennis Pritt Road, Hurligham, Nairobi [Map here].
