In an event that tracks the history of the institution as well as its position as a leading light in contemporary art, the Goodman Gallery presents its 2011 auction.

This is an opportunity for collectors to bid on works that have either never been seen on exhibition or have rarely or intermittently been made available to the South African public.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the organisation SHOUT for a Safer South Africa.

Featured on the auction will be works acquired by the Gallery since its inception in 1966. This diverse series of lots will range from works by major international names such as Pablo Picasso to late South African masters such as Bettie Cilliers-Barnard, Robert Hodgins and Durant Sihlali.

Also featured on the auction will be work by leading local contemporary artists Kendell Geers, David Goldblatt, William Kentridge, Moshekwa Langa, Sam Nhlengethwa, Tracey Rose, Mikhael Subotzky and Minnette Vári among others.

There will also be highly collectable works by South African artists with a more historical association with the gallery, such as Senzeni Marasela, Dan Rakgoathe and Cyprian Shilakoe.

Musician/singer/song-writer Danny K, one of the founding members of SHOUT, will introduce some of the vital activities of this worthy organisation, and there will be a short musical performance featuring supporters of SHOUT prior to the auction.

About Shout

Since its formation in 2010 SHOUT for a Safer South Africa has managed to raise over R1,5 million, primarily through the sale of the SHOUT song performed by numerous South African musicians, including Danny K and Kabelo.

The organisation supports and funds selected NGOs specialising in crime prevention and rehabilitation in South Africa, such as Khulisa Crime Prevention Initiative, The SmilingOne Foundation and The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children.

SHOUT has also assisted the SAPS through human resources, anti-crime rallies and monitoring court cases. The organisation has also set up funds for individuals affected by crime.

100% of auction proceeds on 18 lots will go directly to SHOUT. The lot numbers are indicated in the catalogue.
