An Invitation to The Connect4Climate Photo and Video Competition
News
The World Bank and a broad range of partners recently launched Connect4Climate (C4C): a campaign, a competition, and a community dedicated to raising awareness about climate change issues in Africa and around the world.

With over 500 million mobile phone users in Africa, Connect4Climate hopes to challenge African youth to engage in climate change issues.
Concept
The Connect4Climate is photo/video competition for Africa. There are over 500 million mobile phone users in Africa, with increasing access to the internet and social media. Across the continent, computer use in homes, offices and cyber cafes is on the rise. Dramatic growth in social-networking sites is increasing demand for and distribution of local content and coverage of issues like climate change that matter to young Africans.
The Connect4Climate competition will challenge African youth to submit photos and short videos documenting their personal stories about climate change issues and their own ideas for action.
Social Media Engagement
Using social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, etc, the Connect4Climate competition will reach a young demographic to raise awareness about climate change issues within Africa and tap the rich potential of youth as powerful agents of social change on the African continent. Connect4Climate will use these platforms to kick start an interactive dialogue on climate change issues amongst both African youth and social media users worldwide.
Coupled with the contribution of high-quality climate change content from our substantive partners, the website, Connect4Climate.org, will evolve into a digital hub for climate change communications.

The website will showcase evocative user-generated photos and videos on climate change which will inspire others to tell their own stories and offer innovative ideas for action. As the competition gains momentum, the connections made through social media together with the images and videos uploaded on the site will stimulate a global exchange amongst young activists with a passion for the environment and development.
Objectives
The Connect4Climate competition and website will raise awareness about climate change issues, provide a forum for young people around the world for social accountability, and create opportunities for constructive conversations and resource sharing on climate change.
The Connect4Climate competition will culminate in a high-profile awards ceremony at COP 17 in Durban, an exhibition, strong visual features on partner media outlets and an associated online open forum. After Durban, Connect4Climate.org will evolve into a global platform for climate change and development issues. It will showcase compelling user-generated and partner-produced stories, culminating in another dynamic event at the United Nations Rio+20 conference in June 2012.
