Fatric Bewong -- Fine Art

Artist Profile

Fatric Bewong is a Fine Artist.

Fatric Bewong was born on the March 1981, in Tarkwa, Ghana. She graduated in 2006 from the College of Art Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, with a BFA in Painting. She did her National Service with the Ghana National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).

Since the completion of this, she has gone into fulltime studio practice as a painter.

She believes her artistic nature can be traced to her mother who was a batik, tie&dye maker.  She used to lend her mum a hand by cutting out patterns and helping with colour combination at that age of ten (10) years. Even though her parents saw her talent, she was determined to read science in high school.

They however guided her interest towards the study of art. Interestingly, she excelled in her lessons and proceeded to the University to study painting.

Fatric is always discovering new ways of creating and expressing herself through her art. she state’s “It’s time to ascertain new ways of expression and representing our mindscapes just like earlier generations.”

What am up to now

In my current work, I have been exploring natural sound as an inspiration to my paintings and shall exhibiting the first series of works in this direction on the 11th of May 2010, at the Goethe-Institut in Accra. Titled, “heaRing the skies,” the exhibition brings together sounds and paintings.

It is necessary that we pay more attention to our environment, listen more to all that happens around us and just maybe, we’d hear our hearts beat for this planet we all love. Our effort does not have to be of mammoth size. A little drip of care  is all we need  to make a big difference.
