Leon Kuhn -- Mixed Media

Artist Profile

Leon Kuhn is a Mixed Media Artist
Leon Kuhn

Born in South Africa in 1971, I moved to Sweden in 2001 and completed my education in painting, drawing, graphical printing and pottery at Folks Universitetet in Stockholm. In 2004 I moved to Kenya where I developed my techniques of building up collages from various materials like, pigments, sand, textile, hand made paper, rusted metal sheets, various animal dung etc.

My immediate environment is what inspires me, ranging from the people, culture, objects, thoughts and especially materials that I come in contact with. I have a close relationship to materials I find in nature that can be used or recycled. I often work in layers, building a texture and “feeling” into the work, letting the material influence the result, not so much the original idea.
