Medie Mulindwa (1983) -- Fine Art

Artist Profile

I was born in 1983 in Nsaambya, a suburb in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. From a tender age of about six, I was so passionate about drawing and painting. I can’t draw a clear line when my professional career began but I can say with certainty that I sold my first paintings at the age of sixteen. I did collaborate with different Ugandan professional artists in my late teenage years, and I could think of anything better than earning a living by doing something you love. This motivated me to build my career.

But as far as inspiration is concerned, my work is a reflection of the world through my eyes,a synthesis of personal feelings fuelled by personal perception which bares my hunger for knowledge or better understanding of the ambiguity of some circumstance in life.

The ideas in my paintings are inspired by events that unfold as a result of daily human relations and interaction in the world around me, and in the beauty of nature and wildlife.

Basically my paintings have two major trends; the resolved state of mind, and the unresolved state of mind. Originating from an African heritage, African culture is always my point of reference and a constant source of inspiration. That said, the subject matter in my works blends cultures from the world over, as I have lived my childhood, teenage and part of my adult life in Uganda, and my present adult life in Europe ,mainly Italy and UK.

My paintings are basically a mix of oils and acrylics, painted on canvas and back cloth. They virtually explore my state of mind in the process of me literally negotiating interaction with the world around me.
