Percy Pilane (1974) -- Fine Art

Artist Profile

Percy Pilane is a Fine Artist.

I am a self taught artist and art has been part of me since the age of seven, where I discovered playing around with colours and drawing makes me feel complete. Most of my work is done using acrylics and as a graphic designer I'm equally interested in mixed media and various printing media.

My paintings show my complex personality and things that are dear to me, celebration of beauty and colour in life. My work reflects cultural, political, environmental and general social issues that affect our lives.

I love to paint African people with their vibrant clothes and I’m influenced by my African culture and tradition and what I see around – decorative patterns, the contrast of light and shadow. My paintings vary in themes since I try  to express what I feel at the time. It is my belief that art does not have to be just realistically beautiful or emotional, but it can be funny as well.

My work is held in private, government and corporate collections locally and abroad.
