Seth musindi also known by the artistic name ‘Remy” was born 45 years ago in Kakamega district of Kenya’s western province. Remy is the middle child in a family of eight. He comes from the famous Bull fighting sport community and “The crying stone” land mark in Western Province of Kenya.

The art talent was discovered in him by his peers at a tender age of six years. Remy has earned a name as a professional artist through determination and hard work. As a private candidate in final exams, he registered to take fine art papers with no teacher to guide him and passed with a straight ‘A’ at A levels. He later studied Graphic Design at the Kenya Polytechnic but after freelancing for a while settled on painting. His work has developed with years of hard work and the passion to reach greater heights.

Although he worked in realism in his early years of practice, his technique continued to develop into a more contemporary style. As he progressed in this profession, he continued experimenting more with other techniques. At present he describes his work as a combination of expressionism and realism. However, he is never shy to include abstraction and mixed media in some of his works. His experience as an artist and communicator has taught him that not only is he here to express his ideas but must do it in a manner that is perceivable by his audience.

He tries as much as possible to capture his viewers’ attention by including feelings in any image that he does. He strives not only to beautify but also to communicate. Warm colours are his best choice as they bring life to his paintings as well brighten any environment where they are displayed.

Remy’s experience when experimentation with cool colours proved that most viewers were attracted to warmer colours as opposed to cool ones. He believes strongly in the gift of life which is meant for each recipient to search deeply within themselves in order to discover their makers purpose on earth.

What am up to now

I have just been selected for a scholarship training on Anti-corruption and Good Governance to be held at The Les Aspin Center for government in Washington USA from August 9th 2010 to September 5th 2010.This selection was done in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania after a total of 18 officers from Government and civil society personnel qualified after being interviewed in their respective countries.

ECAK is one of the East African Artists’ Organizations using Arts to relay vital messages and information to the community for decision making purposes. Our Artists have gained enough experience to interpret community issues through the use of social science strategies and later convert ideas into understandable visual images.

I’ve also been appointed to represent Dr. Alexander Kanevsky’s creative legacy throughout the world with primary specialty of the countries of Africa. Dr. Alexander is a renowned American Artist, Doctor and writer. My very first project for this assignment is to introduce an intercultural Artists’ exchange program between Kenya and the USA visual Artists.

My proposal to the Kenya National Museums Society for an exhibition space for this event is being considered for the Month of October 2010. The Artist’s special pieces shall be on show besides works selected from a few recognized Kenyan prominent artists. Alexander is referred to as a super Renaissance Man because of his diverse accomplishments.
