Sulaiman Ishola (1974) -- Fine Art

Artist Profile

Dauda Sulaiman is a Fine Artist.

Sulaiman, Dauda Ishola: Hailed from Lanlate, a town in Ibarapa Local Government Area in Oyo State, Nigeria. He is a painter who has a funny way of presenting his message in his milieu through the use of basic lines and strokes of brush to display African conceptual feelings.

The lines are normally manipulated in a care-free way of both curl and twist. The funniest part of his work is the dancing movement of the lines forming patterns of enjambment in painting. His painting style is called Squiggle-ism. He bags MFA, HND and NCE (Painting) from the most prominent art schools in Nigeria. He is presently a Lecturer in the Department of Painting and General Art, School of Arts and Design, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria.

He is the founder of the Squiggle-ism Art Studio popularly called Centre for Creative African Values (C-CAV), Auchi, Edo State, Nigeria.

What am up to now

The strongest theme of my creativity in art is the conceptual nature of man and his Creator which many people have left behind in their daily life. To me, art work that is based on the cultural heritage of man and the up liftmen of his milieu should be the focus of studio output.

My concept of line in both painting and drawing is the summation of three subjects: God, man and his milieu. My thought and feelings in the explanation of African beauty come together as a body of a unique style: SQUIGGLE-ISM

In this view, I consider my work and style of studio practice not just as a mere play, neither time wasting nor a materialization of some movements but a foot print that will live after my departure.
